Winged Icons

Saint Takla Haymanot’s winged icons are beautiful pictures showing him with six wings, a special gift through Christ that lights up churches and hearts! Tradition says these icons come from a miracle where Archangel Michael gave him wings to float down a valley after a rope broke, a story painted in churches from Debre Libanos to Alexandria. Some say in Ethiopia, these icons glow faintly during the feast of 24 Nehase, when crowds sing hymns to Takla through Christ, like he’s smiling from heaven. The paintings show him old and wise, with a staff and six wings, reminding everyone he’s a saint who helps through Christ.

In the Coptic Church in Alexandria, a famous mosaic shows Takla, tradition says, overcoming evil in Ketana, with wings shining bright. Some say kids feel it’s alive, and one even said it moved during a service! These winged icons are more than art; they help us feel close to Takla through Christ. For kids, they’re like superhero posters, showing Saint Takla soaring between earth and heaven, ready to help through Christ when we need him most!
