St. Takla's Living Presence

Heavenly Helper

Saint Takla Haymanot is a fast helper in heaven, praying for us through Christ’s grace when we need him. Tradition says he’s called the “Friend of Michael” because Archangel Michael helped his family and gave him wings, meaning his closeness to God, per The Life of Takla Haymanot. Ethiopian Christians ask for his prayers for strength, like when he stood on one leg for years. Some say he baptized over 111,000 people and fought evil, showing he never gives up, per The Churches of Ethiopia.

Kids in Showa and beyond pray, “Saint Takla, help me be brave!” feeling his support like a big brother, as taught in Sunday schools. Some say, long ago, descendants of a king named Montemly, who troubled Takla, faced hard times with no food. They asked for Takla’s prayers, and a vision of him praying brought rain through Christ’s grace, per The Life of Takla Haymanot. Today, monks at Debre Libanos, a great monastery Takla founded, feel his prayers through Christ in tough times, per The Churches of Ethiopia. For kids, Takla’s heavenly help means he’s always there—whether you’re scared or need a boost—lifting you up with his love for Christ!
