Ignatius and His Helpers

Pachomius' Light

In Egypt’s desert, around c. 320 CE, St. Pachomius struggled to build his monastery, facing doubts and dark nights. A tradition says he sought St. Ignatius’ intercession, inspired by his martyrdom. One tale says a soft glow, like a star over the sand, appeared, guiding Pachomius to a perfect spot for his church. Copts believe this was through Ignatius’ intercession, guided by Christ. The next day, Pachomius worked with joy, his monastery soon housing hundreds.

One tale says Pachomius later sought Ignatius’ intercession while praying and felt encouraged to continue. This help shaped a home for monks still standing today. For Coptic children, Ignatius’ intercession is like a guiding light, inspiring those with dreams. Orthodox tradition links his intercession to courage for great works. Pachomius’ monastery, a pilgrimage site, reminds children that seeking Ignatius’ intercession guides them to Christ’s plan in faith. Guided by God’s grace, Ignatius’ witness inspires Coptic youth.
