Ignatius and His Helpers

Dionysius' Healing

Around c. 260 CE, Alexandria faced a plague, and Pope Dionysius prayed for his suffering city. A tradition says he sought St. Ignatius’ intercession, inspired by his steadfast faith. One tale says a calm settled over the streets, and through Ignatius’ intercession, guided by Christ, families recovered. One tale says a child, healed that week, thanked Christ through Ignatius’ intercession, running to church with joy. The city’s hope grew through Ignatius’ intercession.

One tale says Dionysius later saw a glowing cross in his chapel, a sign of Christ’s guidance through Ignatius’ intercession. This strengthened Alexandria’s Christians, their faith bolder. For Coptic children, Ignatius’ intercession shows how saints guide us to Christ. Orthodox tradition links his intercession to courage in trials. Dionysius’ story inspires feast day prayers, teaching children that seeking Ignatius’ intercession brings hope in Christ’s healing. Guided by God’s grace, Ignatius’ witness inspires Coptic youth.
