Every March 9, Copts hold a joyful celebration for Pope Kyrillos VI, marking his passing to heaven in 1971. At Saint Mark’s Cathedral in Abbasseya, thousands gather—children with balloons, parents with candles, monks chanting hymns. The church shines with flowers and icons, and Kyrillos’ relics by the altar remind all of his intercession. It’s a joyful day, like a birthday for his life with Christ! One tale says a girl in 2015 prayed for her sick grandmother during the feast, and, through Kyrillos’ intercession, she was well by evening, filling all with joy.
The celebration begins with a Divine Liturgy, as Kyrillos loved, with priests baking korban bread at dawn. Families share stories of his miracles, like finding lost children or healing fevers, keeping his legacy alive. Children enjoy sweets, waving banners, while singers praise God. One tale says prayers in 2015 feast led, through God’s grace, to a boy succeeding his exam the next day. Copts worldwide join in spirit, honoring his legacy. For children, this is a special saint’s day, full of happiness, with his intercession feeling near.
The March 9 feast is a call to rejoice in heaven’s love. Children can join the prayers, trusting God’s love, through Kyrillos’ intercession, fills the feast with joy that never fades.
