Kyrillos and His Holy Friends

Helping Basilios

In 1959, Pope Kyrillos VI strengthened the Ethiopian Orthodox Church by ordaining Abuna Basilios as its first patriarch, helping it stand independent after centuries of ties to Alexandria. Basilios, a humble monk, was guided by Kyrillos’ leadership during this historic step. In 1965, Kyrillos visited Ethiopia, welcomed warmly by Basilios, and they prayed together, deepening their churches’ bond. One Coptic tale says that in 1960, during Ethiopian unrest, Kyrillos’ prayers, through his intercession guided by Christ, brought peace to a council meeting.

Copts cherish this bond, seeing Kyrillos as a saint who built a bridge between churches. For children, it’s like a wise teacher guiding a friend to lead—Kyrillos guided Basilios to serve God. Coptic children hear stories of Kyrillos’ kindness, feeling close to his intercession. His legacy inspires quiet gratitude in Coptic hearts, showing saints unite us in faith.

Kyrillos’ work teaches kids that God’s love, through saints’ intercession, builds a united family in faith across lands, singing together in Christ’s joy.
