Tradition says St. Yared inspired monks’ worship at Tana Kirkos Monastery, teaching them to sing and dance for Christ. Tradition says he visited their quiet island, guiding aquaquam rhythms as monks learned Deggua, their voices rising over Lake Tana’s waves. Some believe one monk tripped during a dance but felt like Yared's intercession steadied him to continue, leading to a liturgy so beautiful that pilgrims wept. Monks called him their teacher, saying his Ezel chants made fasting feel like feasting.
This inspiration lives on in monasteries today. Tradition says at Debre Damo, monks sing Araray as Yared inspired, moved by his legacy in their cells. Some believe a young monk felt inspired by Yared’s intercession to sing a midnight Me’eraf, waking to find his brothers singing it too. For children, Yared’s monk friends show his music can fill silent places with worship, inviting them to praise Christ with joy.
