St. Sophronius, a bishop in the 600s, wrote St. Mary’s story so we’d all know it—and she was believed to guide him! Zosimas told monks, and monks passed it on until Sophronius was inspired to write her story faithfully. He wrote of her sinful past, desert struggles, and miracles, making her a guide for Lent. His book is why Coptic and Ethiopian children learn about her today, calling her “the sinner who became a saint.” He sought her prayers to write faithfully.
Coptic tradition honors Sophronius for preserving her story. Ethiopian tradition cherishes his work for sharing her holy life. Kids think it’s amazing—Mary didn’t write, but she inspired a bishop from heaven! Her story’s a treasure because Sophronius was her faithful writer.
