Lion's Roar Story

St. Mark’s Gospel roars with Christ’s truth, echoing across time. Tradition says around 60 AD, Mark wrote it in Rome with Peter’s guidance, per Eusebius (Ecclesiastical History). It begins boldly: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Prepare the way of the Lord!’” (Mark 1:3), read in Coptic liturgies. Short and fast, it’s like a lion, Mark’s symbol in icons, charging with Christ’s power, per The Coptic Encyclopedia.

Mark wrote what he saw, like Jesus’ miracles, and what Peter shared, creating a story still read today. Some say he wrote in a time of danger, praying as his pen raced. It spread quickly, giving the Church Christ’s life, per early Christian writings. Copts call it their founder’s voice, read on 30 Baramoudah; Ethiopians chant it in Gəʿəz on Yekatit 30, per The Churches of Ethiopia. For kids, taught in Sunday school, it’s Mark’s lion heart, proclaiming Christ’s love to the world.
