Feasts and Praises

Coptic 24 Kiahk

Every 24 Kiahk, Coptic churches in Egypt glow with candles to honor St. Ignatius’ martyrdom around 108 CE. Families gather, children clutching flowers, as priests read his story from the Synaxarion—how he faced lions for Christ. One tale says a Cairo boy named Yousef sought Ignatius’ intercession in 2022, nervous about a school bully, felt brave, and befriended the boy. The feast, held in summer’s heat, feels cool with hope, as hymns and bread-sharing unite all.

Villages like Minya host processions, with children waving palm branches, seeking Ignatius’ intercession. One tale says a storm paused during a 2020 march, letting children sing safely. These feasts are alive with miracles, big and small. For Coptic youth, 24 Kiahk is a joyful feast where seeking Ignatius’ intercession teaches them to stand firm in faith. His feast brings joy, showing that love for Christ, through Ignatius’ intercession, overcomes challenges. Guided by God’s grace, his witness inspires Coptic youth.
