St. Athanasius kicked off Ethiopia’s Church by guiding Frumentius, their first bishop! Around the 330s AD, he picked Frumentius—called Abuna Selama—and some believe he gave him a staff and cross, saying, “Guard Ethiopia with Jesus’ truth!” Frumentius faced Arian lies from Emperor Constantius, but one story says that Athanasius showed up in a dream, telling him, “Stay strong!” That kept Ethiopia’s faith solid, and they still call Athanasius their church’s starter.
Ethiopian stories say he visited Aksum once, helping Frumentius in person too. His guidance wasn’t just back then—one story says in the 13th century, he helped St. Takla Haymanot through a dream too! For kids, it’s like Athanasius is Ethiopia’s coach, passing tips to his friends to win for Jesus.
